Today I finally got around to installing gnokii and testing them.
Surprise, surprise - they worked immediately. XGnokii found all my SMS messages and phone numbers without a hitch. Supposedly I should be able to use the command line gnokii tool to write shell scripts to manipulate my phone now.
This opens some interesting hacking possibilities - if I can find an old Nokia 5110 (I'd need neither a battery nor a working screen, anyone wanna gimme their broken phone?), then I could buy a cheap subscription, connect the scrap phone to Klaki and then use it to implement cell-phone services. This could also enable Klaki to call for help if it's network connection went down. :-)
That would be fun.
I wonder if one can use this to implement an answering machine? Doesn't look like it at first glance anyway...
P.S. Yes, I know the 'net connection to Klaki has been flakey lately. Apparently the problem is a broken hub, which should be fixed today. I hope!
