Why don't web browsers have volume controls?
For that matter, why don't all GUI apps have volume controls? Why isn't there a little volume slider up next to the "close window" button?
Sure, in the case of the browsers, I know it's usually the Flash player that's making the noise and that there would be Technical Difficulties in making it work. But I don't care. Flash and the browser makers should work this shit out and get it fixed!
Incidentally, when Googling for solutions I discovered that this is one of the features of Windows Vista: according to the interwebs, it lets you control the volume of individual applications. I dunno if the go so far as to put an easy to find volume slider on all application windows, but it sounds like Windows has an edge over Linux and the Mac on this front at least.
For my old PPC laptop at home, I'll probably be giving Detour a try.
This annoying lack of volume controls is preventing me from seeing the end of this wonderful song.
